Rename Network Icon in Windows Vista

When you right click on the network icon in the Windows vista or in XP, you will notice that there isn't a "rename" option available. To rename network icon in Windows Vista, you will need to access and tweak the Windows Registry. Be sure to make a backup copy of Windows registry before making any changes to the registry.The steps for the registry tweak to rename network icon in Windows Vista is given below:

• Go to Start menu of Windows Vista by click on the start button below the desktop.
  
• In the Search box in the Vista start menu, type in: regedit.exe
  
• After typing press Enter and this will opens the Windows registry editor.
  
• Navigate to the following registry key:
  
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\ Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache
  
• Left click the MuiCache entry to empty its contents in to the right pane.
  
• In the right pane, locate an entry titled: @C:\Windows\system32\NetworkExplorer.dll,-1
  
• Double click the above titled entry
  
• In the "Value data" text field enter the name you would like to use
  
• Exit the Registry Editor
  
• Restart your system and you can see the name of your network icon changes.
